APPLICATION Staff
SYC staff are exceptionally qualified, bringing many years of experience and a deep commitment to early childhood education. They create nurturing, stimulating, and engaging environments that support children’s growth and development.
Each classroom at SYC is led by a dedicated teaching team consisting of a teacher and a teaching assistant, ensuring personalized attention and support for every child. Teaching teams work to build collaborative relationships with families to support children’s development at school and home. Teachers hold a BA or MA in Early Childhood Education. Teaching Assistants must have at least an Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education. These qualifications ensure teaching staff are capable of planning appropriate curriculum that challenge children in meaningful ways. Teachers understand how to create curriculum and environments that provide opportunities for children to further develop skills and broaden their understanding of current knowledge.
Collaboration with the University of Saint Joseph
School for Young Children serves as one of two laboratory schools associated with the University of Saint Joseph (USJ). SYC’s collaboration with the University is an important aspect of the preschool program. A University classroom onsite is utilized several times during the week. USJ students make observations within SYC classrooms. During class and additional observation experiences students extend their understanding of course content.
SYC offers additional volunteer and internship experiences to USJ students. Students working on degrees in nutrition, social work and health care have worked on projects within SYC classrooms.
SYC employs USJ students to support the classrooms and program throughout the day. Effort is made to hire students interested in teaching and working with young children.
