Classrooms

Classrooms at SYC are spacious and designed with home-like qualities, featuring hardwood floors, area rugs, plants, soft neutral colors, and oversized chairs and couches. Natural elements are incorporated into each space to create a connection with the outdoors. The classrooms feature eight-foot-high windows, allowing plenty of natural light to fill the space. The arrangement of learning centers within the classroom—such as art, blocks, dramatic play, science, and a library area—create an engaging and stimulating environment that encourages children to explore, experiment, and investigate.

Classrooms at The School for Young Children are arranged with mixed-age configurations, allowing children to learn at their own pace while developing leadership and cooperative play and social skills. This approach encourages older children to take on leadership roles, while younger children benefit from observing and interacting with more experienced classmates. The mixed-age setting fosters a sense of community, collaboration, and mutual respect, enhancing both social and academic growth.

Enrollment for a third year of preschool at SYC is based upon the September 1 State of CT legislative ruling.  Third year enrollment is exclusive to children ineligible for Kindergarten entry.
